Adonis Georgiadis on SKAI 100.3: We have serious reductions compared to the previous week
Speaking to SKAI 100.3, the Minister of Development Adonis Georgiades he emphasized that the new prices are valid from the morning and later in the day there will be an announcement about the fluctuations in prices compared to the previous week.
The news is pleasant, stressed Mr. Georgiadis, the competition between the supermarket chains will work and is already working, he added.
He added that we already have serious price reductions compared to last week’s basket.
In fact, he said that the biggest reduction in prices is taking place in the chain Masoutis, where it is recorded there the basket with the lowest prices.
Mr Georgiadis said he would visit the supermarket tomorrow and explained that he was interested in promoting the chain which is dropping prices week by week to set an example for other chains.
The Minister of Development also said that tomorrow at 2 in the afternoon he will have meeting with representatives of the food industry: “We will have a discussion, I don’t want to blame anyone, I want a human consultation, consultation can help and will lead the industry to get more firmly into the baskets, I have no doubt” he said.
Mr. Georgiadis also noted that since last Wednesday we have had serious reductions in many products and more specifically in more than 350 products out of 850 they have had a price reduction.
In detail he said that last week milk was 1.2 euros in two chains and this week in four, which proves that the supermarkets manage and make serious offers.
Regarding the complaints about the labeling on the basket products, he said that a ministerial decision will be issued, which will make it mandatory to be more visible.
“Supermarkets must back off,” concluded Mr. Georgiadis.
