The President of the Republic went boating on the lake of Kastoria

Although it was not foreseen in the official program of the visit, Katerina Sakellaropoulou responded positively to the proposal of Mayor Yiannis Korentsidis to take a short cruise on the lake.

The President of the Republic was in Kastoria today to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the liberation of the city.

After the end of the student and military parade that took place as part of the events for the freedom of the city from the Ottoman yoke, the President of the Republic had the opportunity to walk on the southern beach and greet many of the Kastorians who at that time were enjoying lunch sun on the lake

Although it was not foreseen in the official program of the visit, Katerina Sakellaropoulou – immediately after the official lunch held in her honor – responded positively to the proposal of the Mayor of Kastoria, Yiannis Korentsidis, to take a small cruise on the lake.

The President of the Republic, accompanied by the mayor, boarded the “Olympia” boat that was waiting for them on the northern beach and took a tour of the city’s sights, starting from the “Apozari” district with its amazing mansions.

Then they headed to the historic monastery of Mavriotissa which dates back to the 11th century. The amazing “Dragon’s cave” followed and in the end the President of the Republic enjoyed from the lake the medieval architecture in Dolso which is considered the oldest district of Kastoria and dates back to Byzantine times.
