The transplant took place last week at the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Florence, but was announced on Friday.

The liver of a 100-year-old woman was successfully transplanted into a patient in Italy, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday. It is the first time that an organ has been transplanted from a donor of such an advanced age.

The transplant took place last week at the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Florence, but was announced on Friday.

The donor, who died shortly before the transplant, would have turned 101 in January. Her liver was donated to a patient on the waiting list at the University Hospital of Pisa.

The process, which began with the death of the donor and ended with the liver being transplanted into the patient, took less than 24 hours, according to Italian health ministry officials.

The previous record for the oldest organ donor was 97 years.

The details of the donor and recipient have not been released due to medical privacy laws.
