The 54-year-old husband killer sat in the defendant’s dock with the charges of intentional homicide in a calm state of mind, carrying a weapon and using a weapon.
The dramatic moments of the murder of a 43-year-old woman by her husband, in August 2021 in Sotiritsa, Larissa, were revived today at the Mixed Jury Court of Volos where the case was tried.
In the defendant’s dock sat the 54-year-old husband killer with the charges of intentional homicide in a calm state of mind, carrying a weapon and using a weapon.
THE 54 years old he had met and married her 43 years oldwhen the woman was just 18 years old and they subsequently had three children together.
The family lived in Athens, but the 43-year-old went to the beaches of Larissa in the summers and helped in the family tavern-ouzorie business, which was run by her brother.
But the morning of August 3 proved fatal for the unfortunate woman.
Around 10.30 am the defendant arrived at the tavern and shot the 43-year-old 7 to 8 times.
The 54-year-old then called EL.AS., with police officers from AT. Agias to arrest him at the scene of the crime.
“I killed my wife because she was unfaithful“, the perpetrator of the murder told the police, according to the testimony of one of the police officers who was among the first to find the scene of the crime. In addition to the police officer, two of the couple’s three children testified in court today, as did the victim’s elderly mother. The trial was adjourned late at noon and will resume next Friday, November 25.
“He loved my mother, it was a wrong time»
In his testimony, one of the sons of the murdered woman said that he was convinced that his mother had an extramarital affair, but that she was a good mother.
He even mentioned that he had also found a note from her lover.
To the repeated questions of the Prosecutor, he replied that his father’s act was not justified, who, as he said, was receiving psychiatric treatment and taking medication.
However, the young man noted that when asked “why did you do it father“, he replied because he didn’t take his medicine.
He also said that his mother cursed his father. “And because she cursed him, he killed her“, the prosecutor asked, with the witness replying that everything agreed on the crime, namely the drugs, the fight with the swearing and the whole situation. The young man arrived in Sotiritsa in the afternoon of the day of the murder.
He said that in the last year and a half his mother was often away from their home, in Peristeri, to be in the village.
The defense counsel, examining the witness, said that the abuser had loss of consciousness and psychosisbecause of which he had started smoking and drinking.
The couple’s son said his father suspected his mother of having extramarital affairs and found it out when the convenience store they used to run was robbed. She had bugged the convenience store’s payphone and heard her lover. The young man said that his father loved his mother and the murder was a wrong time. “He didn’t want it“, he argued.
“Silver pick up, daddy killed mommy»
This was followed by the testimony of the couple’s daughter, who said that her father worked at ELTA and was an ordinary family with financial problems and fights at the dinner table over everyday issues.
She herself never heard her father accuse her mother of infidelity.
As she said, her father suspected her of having a parallel relationship in the last year, when his wife went to the village to help in her brother’s tavern.
He claimed that he had a parallel relationship in the past as well and had proof. In the last 4 years, according to the witness, her mother was distant and lived for long periods with her relatives in the village.
“She was distant, because of my father’s behavior. Both our mother and our father were always close to us. When my mother was away in the village we talked every day. When we had gone to the village in July with my father and brother, my mother was working in the tavern and was distant. He wanted no contact with my father. We knew from my father that they were going to get a divorce. She had told us that maybe there was something else in her life. The father had fallen psychologically, he was crying, saying that he did not want to lose her“, said the daughter of the perpetrator and the victim.
Continuing her testimony, she mentioned that her mother had disclosed to her 5 years ago incidents of violence by her father and had told her that she was afraid that if she left home he would harm her or their children.
When the murder took place, the couple’s daughter was in Sotiritsa. She had gone with her father and little brother on holiday.
“I was sleeping in the house which is 500 meters away. My little brother came and told me “Asimina get up, dad killed mom”. My little brother was in the tavern from outside. The image I saw was my mother on the floor, in the area where we were washing the glasses. My father was in the yard. He walked calmly. My grandmother was in the kitchen cooking and saw mom dead. I learned that the incident was being recorded“, the witness said in her testimony. When the president asked her why her father killed her mother, she replied:
“As far as I know, why did he tell him to go and see you and your children. For the last five or six years they had not slept together. He probably killed her because all the problems fell together“, he said.
He was sleeping in the patrol car after the crime
The hearing continued with the testimony of the police officer who, when he received a call, went to the place of the murderer. As he said, he saw the perpetrator on the street stopping the patrol car and guiding them.
“I killed my wife because she was unfaithful,” he told the police, who when they arrived at the scene tried to help the victim’s mother who was in a state of shock.
She herself told them that the perpetrator had recorded the incident on audio. “He answered everything we asked him. He spoke strongly, but logically”, said the witness and added that the operations center was informed that the attacker called the police saying “come, I killed my wife”.
“I was impressed that in the patrol car, on the way to Larissa, he was sleeping“, the policeman testified.
“TI told her to be patient“
The deceased woman’s elderly mother said in her testimony that the 43-year-old had gone to the village to help in the tavern in March 2021.
She herself did not know, as she said, what her daughter’s relationship was with her son-in-law, but she described him as irritable and abrupt. “I was telling her to be patient. She didn’t say anything to me, but I had heard from the kids that he was hitting her“.
As the old woman said, on the morning of the day of the murder, the perpetrator went to Larissa and returned around 11.
She was cooking in the kitchen when she heard the shots, ran and saw her daughter lying on the ground covered in blood. “At first, I thought the gas cylinder exploded,” he said, adding that he had never heard of an extramarital affair.
“My son in law thought his daughter was having an affair with a friend of my son’s, married with two kids“.
The defendant’s defense attorney argued in his statements that the perpetrator had undiagnosed psychosis, two years before the brutal crime.
As he said, the fact that he had been recording his wife for years showed psychosis.
“He told me that he was pushed to the crime by disrespect and contempt,” he said.
