The 39-year-old’s descriptions of what she experienced at the time of the fatal attack on the busy Istiklal Street are riveting.
The 39-year-old injured person from Constantinople, Anna Depola, is expected in Thessaloniki in the late afternoon. The young girl who was a tourist in the city was injured with shrapnel in her leg, as she was on the busy Istiklal street at the time of the deadly attack.
As the girl’s father said: “My daughter is in the Istanbul Hospital with a wound from the bomb on her leg…they put a plaster cast on her, stopped the bleeding and tomorrow she was to be operated on to remove the shrapnel.” The wife was crying, because they took us… and we heard the child crying saying that she is in the hospital and we were shocked… a miracle happened and she was saved. The important thing is that she is not in danger and all that remains is to have an operation to remove the bomb fragment from the leg”.
According to a complaint by the 26-year-old’s father, the Turks wanted to charge the Greek woman’s hospitalization in full to the family.
Finally, after coordinated actions by the Ministry of Health with the Greek Consulate and the legal representative of the family, the young woman who suffered, among other things, a strong shock from the explosion, was decided to return home for her hospitalization.
Meanwhile, the 26-year-old’s descriptions of what she experienced are riveting:
“I was in Istiklal walking comfortably and as I was on the right side, three shops down, the explosion happened. At that moment… shock! A white glow in the air! It shakes you back. I do not know how to say it. Your life stops! Until now we have seen these on TV. Thank God I am healthy and fit.
After the first shock you understand that these are terrorists. You look around and you see that there is chaos, war… very bad time! People run in panic and I fall to the ground. Suddenly, I see a lot of blood coming from my leg. I was scared. If you don’t experience it, you can’t understand the fear you feel. I am very lucky. Some people helped me. They took me to a shop… they closed the blinds… People were crying, panic, voices, babies, parents… Then we waited for the ambulances. I am very sorry for the people who died…”.
