God decides who will live and who will die” had told the judges of the Joint Jury the “Dr. Kontos“, the protagonist of one of the most shocking cases that reached the Greek Justice, apologizing for twelve homicides and fourteen attempted homicides of critically ill patients who trusted him for their healing.

Todayafter a year of proceedings, 50-year-old Nikos Kontostathis he is expected to hear the judges’ response which they will announce whether or not they hold him responsible for the lives lost and the pain of the people who testified that because of it they lost loved ones or saw their health deteriorate. An answer that these people, who throughout the trial were there to ask for justice, are waiting anxiously and anxiously for. To claim punishment of the 50-year-old whose reputation as a “brilliant neuro-oncologist” brought them into contact with his paradoxical “therapeutic” methods and great pain.

The judges are due to announce their decision today for all sixteen of the 50-year-old’s co-defendants, doctors, executives of a specific clinic, a nun and others who allegedly reinforced in patients the belief that the “fake doctor” was of high scientific prestige. With its decision, the MOD will decide whether or not the 16 committed what they are accused of by helping the 50-year-old to act and expand continuously.

According to the case file, Kontostathis for a number of years, without the slightest connection to medicine, pretended to be the leader of Oncology “Doctor Kontos”, who claimed that he had essentially “defeated cancer” and other serious diseases, such as the case of a patient with multiple sclerosis whom the defendant assured would be completely cured. “Dr Kontos” for exorbitant fees, he provided his victims with herbs and special diets as sophisticated, highly effective treatments.

Among the 12 patients whoaccording to the case file, they died while the supposedly distinguished scientist bore them, there are also two minor children, 16-year-old Theodosis and 14-year-old Despina. Some of the fourteen who trusted the 50-year-old showed a rapid deterioration in their health, such as the case of a 4-year-old boy with muscular atrophy, who after the intervention of “Doctor Kontos” and stopping his treatment, completely weakened, collapsed organically, remaining disabled ever since wheelchair with 85% disability and “unable to support himself”.

The judges, whose judgment will be announced today, evaluated all the documents, forensic reports and other elements of the case file and what was contributed by all sides. They evaluated the testimonies of people who painfully experienced their contact with the supposed scientist but also the apologies of the accused. Mainly that of the protagonist of the case who, concluding his apology, asked the political plaintiffs to find the strength “to become better Christians and forgive me”.

What did the prosecutor suggest?

If the court accepts the prosecutor’s proposal in its entirety Seat of Nikolaos Paschalis, then will declare Nikos Kontostathis guilty of six murders and five attempted murders. It will acquit him of a further six murders and six attempted murders and will change the charge to a misdemeanor for three more attempted murders for which he is accused.

“He was the indirect perpetrator of the deaths of six cancer patients,” the prosecutor had said, including in the six homicide cases those of the two minor children, “he dominated their will, he misled them, it is the central form of the crime. It turned out that the defendant’s behavior has a causal relationship with the death of these six people.”

According to the prosecutor, “Dr Kontos” misled the victims “that he is a doctor, caused them to decide to either stop or not follow the appropriate treatment and then misled them about the course of their health. He followed a highly studied modus operandi.”

Mr. Politis had emphasized that the 50-year-old, deceiving his victims, he had managed to extort sums of money from them which during its approximately 13 years of operation, exceed 680 thousand euros.

The prosecutor had asked for the release of all the 50-year-old’s co-accused – including a doctor, who had served as a minister in the past, who is involved with Kontostathis and four other defendants in the case of a patient who acquired an 85% disability rate after an operation they performed.
