The case returns to the courtrooms
Seven years after the sudden and unjust death of little Melina Paraskakis, her memory is still asking for justice. After the acquittal of the anesthesiologist who was accused of the death of the 4-year-old girl at the end of December 2015 from a routine surgery she had undergone at the Venizelio Hospital of Heraklion, the case returns to the courtrooms.
The trial, in the second degree, for the death of Melina has been set for tomorrow, by the Three-member Misdemeanor Appeal Court of Eastern Crete, following an appeal filed by the competent prosecutor.
It is recalled that in March 2021 the Three-Member Criminal Court of Heraklion declared innocent the accused anesthesiologist who was referred to the bench for the death of the stillborn girl. The court’s decision caused bitterness and anger in the tragic parents of the 4-year-old girl who waited five whole years to get justice for the death of their child.
A catalytic role in the final judgment of the court was also played by the positions of the three experts whom it had appointed, shortly before the issuance of the decision, in order to provide answers-clarifications on specific issues-questions of the seat.
The district attorney had suggested the guilt of the anesthesiologist, arguing that the accused’s wrong actions were what led to the child’s death.
