The Hellenic Police made 17 arrests from pre-checks, mainly around the perimeter of Exarchia.

A crowd of people commemorated the 49th anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising, coming today, Thursday, to the historic building complex on Patision Street, to leave flowers and wreaths at the monument of the uprising and the iron door that the tank knocked down in the early hours of November 17, 1973.

The attendance of many young children, who left flowers, drawings and even colorful banners at the monument of the Polytechnic gave special color this year.

The gates of the Polytechnic were closed and in a little while the established commemoration of the November 17th Commemoration Committee will take place, during which the anthem of the Polytechnic uprising will be played, after the invocation of the dead.

Flags were raised by students as the dead were read.

Commemorations for the anniversary on November 17 will culminate with the long march to the American embassy.

Traffic regulations

Traffic regulations and changes to public transport routes in the center of Athens are in effect due to this year’s events for the anniversary of the Polytechnic Uprising.

At this time, Patision is closed in both directions.

By order of the Greek Police, today the “Megaro Musikis” metro station will close at 15:00 and the “Syntagma” and “Evangelismos” stations will close at 16:30.

Trains will pass through the stations non-stop, with the stations expected to open after the march to the US embassy is completed in the late afternoon.

According to OASA, until 6:00 A.M. on Friday, November 18th, changes will apply to all bus routes and trolley lines passing through the center of Athens. Including:

  • C12: Routes will not pass through Patision Street. Temporary route Liosion-Halkokondyni-September 3rd-Stournari
  • X95: During the course of the Polytechnic, the routes will run until the National Defense Metro station
  • Trolley 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 15: Temporary route via September 3 – Marne

According to an announcement by EL.AS, from Tuesday, November 15 to Friday, November 18, the following traffic regulations will apply in the center of Athens:

Prohibition of stopping and parking, as well as interruption of vehicle traffic, which will take place gradually and depending on the traffic conditions, from 06.00 on Tuesday 11-15-2022 until 06.00 on Friday 11-18- 2022, as follows:

  • Stournari, in the section between Pl. Exarchion and 3rd September Street.
  • 28th of October (Patesion), in the section between Kodrigtonos and El. Venizelou (University) and in both (2) traffic streams, as well as in the perpendicular ones up to the first parallel street.
  • Tositsa Pedestrian Street.
  • Pedestrian Polytechnic.
  • Bouboulinas, in the section between Stournari Street and Alexandra Street.
  • George, in the section between Stournari and Kapodistriou streets.
  • Botasi, in the section between Stournari and Kapodistriou streets.
  • Kaningos, in the section between Stournari and Chalkokondili streets.
  • Solomou, in the section between 3rd September Street and Pl. Exarchion.
  • Kapodistriou, in the section between Botasi and 3rd September streets.
  • Exarchia Square.
  • Chalkokondyli, in the section between September 3rd Street and Pl. Kaningos.
  • Averof, in the section between 28th October – Patision and Marni streets.
  • Veranzerou, in the section between Kaningos and Marni streets.
  • Sp. Trikoupi, in the section between L. Alexandra and Pl. Exarchion.
  • Solonos, in the section between Ippokratous and Patousa streets.
  • Prohibition of stopping and parking of vehicles, on Thursday 17/11/2022 from 06:00 as well as stopping their traffic from 12:00 until the end of the events:
  • El. Venizelou (University), along its entire length and on its diagonals up to the first parallel street.
  • Omonoia Square .
  • Aeolou, in the section between El. Venizelos (University) and Stadium.
  • Stadium, along its entire length and on its diagonals up to the first parallel street.
  • Syntagma Square.
  • B. Georgiou I, along the entire length of .
  • L. Vas. Sofias, along its entire length in both (2) traffic streams, as well as on its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
  • Academy, along its entire length, as well as on its diagonals up to the first parallel street.
  • L. Alexandras, along its entire length in both (2) traffic streams, as well as on its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
  • Gelonos, in the section between Doryleou and P. Kokkalis streets.
  • P. Kokkalis, in the section between Gelonos Street and L. Vas. Sofia.
  • Dorylaou, in the section between P. Kyriakou Street and L. Vas. Sofia Street.
  • L. Vas. Amalias, along its entire length, as well as on its perpendiculars up to the first parallel street.
  • Filellinon, along its entire length, as well as on its diagonals up to the first parallel street.
  • Syngrou Street, in the section between Ath. Diakou Street and Amalia Street.
  • P. Tsaldari (Piraeus), in the section between Iera Odos and Pl. Omonia.
  • Athena, along its entire length.
  • Ermou, in the section between Athina and P. Tsaldari streets (Piraeus).
  • Felt, along its entire length.
  • Soutsou, in the section between Pl. Mavili and Tsoha street.
  • Zakharov, in the section between Alexandras and Vas. Sofias Avenues.
  • Kifisias St., in the section between Katehaki and Alexandras Avenues, in the traffic flow towards Athens.
  • Mesogeion St., in the section between Katehaki St. and Phidippidou St., in the traffic flow towards Athens.
  • Phidippidou, in the section between Mesogeia and Vas. Sofias Avenues.
  • Michalakopoulou, in the section between Fidippidou and Sp. Merkouri streets and in both (2) traffic streams.
  • L. Vas. Kon/nou, along its entire length, in the traffic flow towards Kifissia.
  • Arditto, along its entire length, in the traffic flow towards L. Vas. Kon/nou.
  • Vas. Alexandrou, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Michalakopoulou Street.
  • Ventiri, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Michalakopoulou Street.
  • Hatzigianni Mexi in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Michalakopoulou Street.
  • Iridanou, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Michalakopoulou Street.
  • Papadiamantopoulou, in the section between Michalakopoulou Street and L. Vas. Sofia.
  • Aeginitou, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Papadiamantopoulou Street.
  • Lourou, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Michalakopoulou Street.
  • Lampsakou, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Michalakopoulou Street.
  • Semitelou in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Michalakopoulou Street.
  • Kerasuntos, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Michalakopoulou Street.
  • Kartali, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Evrou Street.
  • Lykaonia, in the section between L. Vas. Sofia and Evrou Street.

The above traffic regulations will be implemented gradually and depending on the traffic conditions presented.

Furthermore, according to the Decision of “Road Transport SA”, modifications will be made to the itineraries and stops of the means of transport (Buses – Trolley).

The Traffic Directorate of Attica planned and will take measures to facilitate traffic in the wider area of ​​the center of Athens.

The traffic police appeals to drivers from Tuesday 11-15-2022 to Thursday 11-17-2022 to avoid driving and parking their vehicles in the areas of the events, the route of the march and around the US Embassy .A., as well as in the wider area of ​​the Center, both to serve them and to prevent additional traffic problems.
