Vaccinations for children aged 5-11 begin today

by

The vaccinations of children aged 5-11 start today with the first 60,000 doses of children’s vaccines of the companies Pfizer / BioNTec received by our country.

Applications on the emvolio.gov.gr platform have already started on December 10. By yesterday afternoon, 31,000 appointments had been made.

The vaccine given to children contains 1/3 of the adult dose of antigen and the regimen used is two doses with an interval of 21 days. In case a child is ill, the vaccine is given after three months.

In terms of side effects, it appears that after 11 million doses worldwide, the side effects are proportional to the usual vaccines. That is, a slight fever or local reaction at the injection site.

Vaccination centers in 75 areas

The vaccinations are carried out in Primary Care structures and in Hospitals and in the first phase there will be vaccination centers for pediatric vaccines in 75 areas of Greece. More vaccination centers and Health Centers will be gradually added.

In Attica, the vaccinations will be carried out in 5 vaccination points: at the Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital, at the Penteli Children’s Hospital, at the Voula Asclepieion, at the Agia Sofia Health Center in Piraeus and at the Peristeri Health Center.

Also, on the islands and in the remote areas, “cruise vaccinations” will be applied, as was done with the first and the second dose.

It is noted that the National Vaccination Committee has given a positive and unanimous opinion on the vaccination of children of this age group. The recommendation was based on the fact that the vaccines will contribute to the protection of the children themselves, while at the same time they will help them to attend education and all activities in the community. In addition, vaccinating children aged 5-11 will reduce the spread of the virus in the environment, thus indirectly protecting vulnerable people around them, while increasing the number of vaccinated contributes significantly to reducing virus mutations.

Scientists say winter is the worst time for the virus to spread, so parents “should not delay their children’s immunization.”
