The 37-year-old man, who had escaped from the Agrinio hospital a few days ago, appeared at the Agrinio Police Station in the morning accompanied by a lawyer to surrender.
It is recalled that the man had been sentenced to five years in prison for aggravated theft. Being a fugitive, he was located and arrested in Agrinio and was expected to be transferred to a penitentiary.
Citing a health problem, he was taken under guard to the Hospital from where he escaped in the evening hours of last Wednesday 16/11, with the help of familiar persons, from the area of ​​emergency incidents.
He has been wanted ever since, with police conducting extensive searches in Roma neighborhoods in the city. For the case, seven people were arrested who allegedly helped in his escape.
They are four men and three women (aged between 16 and 47 years old), his relatives who are accused of freeing a prisoner.
Subsequently, another 17-year-old was arrested for complicity in the escape, while two to three other people are said to be involved.
In the last few hours, the investigations had intensified and focused on the wider area of ​​Agiovasiliotiki, with the authorities setting up roadblocks in various places and carrying out continuous checks.
With the “string” having been “tightened”, the 37-year-old finally appeared this morning at the Akarnania Police Department to surrender.
