Single minded the best interests of the most vulnerable children who have been separated from their families and are living in the Ark of the World, and after a meeting under the Prime Minister at the Maximos Palace, the Government today replaces the Board of Directors of the Ark of the World.
For this change, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Mrs. Domna Michailidou, is implementing the provision that she proposed and was voted in April 2022 (article 67 of Law 4921/2022). With this provision, the temporary change of management in private welfare agencies is allowed in the event of a significant deterioration in their orderly operation.
“We are implementing a provision for an extraordinary change in the administration of social structures that was passed a few months ago with many against it. A provision that was fought for but without calculating the political cost we stuck to it. Now we are morally obliged to implement it. It is a provision that is used in exceptional cases, but unfortunately we are in front of them and we have to act to protect the children,” said the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.
“The allegations made of abusive behavior are very serious and until the investigation is complete, the smooth running of the structure and the trust we all have in it must be ensured. Because the structure is its children, it is its workers, it is all of us (volunteers, donors, sponsors) who have supported and must continue to support the children. For this reason, highly prestigious people with expertise and many years of experience in child protection were chosen for the new Board of Directors.”
The new Board consists of the following:
1. Alexandra Martinou, economist, President of the Union “TOGETHER FOR THE CHILD”, as President of the Board of Directors
2. Ioannis Spyridon Tentes, former Prosecutor of the Supreme Court,
3. Ioannis Papadatos, Pediatrician, former Director of the Intensive Care Unit, Children’s Hospital “P. & A. Kyriakou”,
4. Giorgos Protopapas, General Director of SOS Children’s Villages,
5. Errika Oikonomou, psychologist, Secretary of “Friends of the Virgin”,
6. Andreas Zompanakis, economist, President of the Center for Special Persons “Hara”,
7. Konstantinos Gloumis-Atsalakis, lawyer, director of the Ministerial office of the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.
The change of management it is temporary and lasts for one year. The new Board of Directors is called upon to ensure the orderly operation of the institution and also to carry out an administrative and financial audit. “The new members of the Board of Directors are taking on a difficult and currently charged task. We thank them for that. Mrs. Alexandra Martinou, as President, like all the other members have proven during their course that they have the experience and know-how to cope. As a Ministry and as a society we should support them for the children of the Ark, for all of us,” he said Mrs. Domna Michailidou.
