Espionage case in Rhodes: The two defendants are unanimously guilty

The two Greek Muslims who were arrested last December on the island were unanimously found guilty of espionage earlier by the Mixed Jury Court of Rhodes.

Specifically, the 36-year-old general secretary of the Turkish consulate was sentenced to 5 years in prison, while the 54-year-old cook of the warship was sentenced to 4 years in prison, who was accused of sending photos of Greek ships to the secretary general of the Turkish consulate.

It is recalled that the two men were charged with the offenses of supporting the enemy’s military force jointly and continuously, of violating state secrets jointly and continuously, of espionage (to a degree of felony) jointly and continuously with the public single purpose for the transfer of state secrets to another for the purpose of endangering the interests of the state, the support of the enemy’s military force jointly and continuously, the breach of state secrets jointly and continuously, espionage (to a degree of felony ) jointly and continuously with a common single use purpose for the transfer of state secrets to another for the purpose of endangering the interests of the state.

The court, with its unanimous decision, found them guilty only for the 3rd category, espionage (to a degree of felony) jointly and continuously, and acquitted them of the other two offenses that burdened them.

The defense attorneys asked for the mitigation of the mitigating circumstances of the previous legal life and the subsequent good behavior to be recognized to the two defendants.

The above was done and resulted in their acquittal from the other two offenses that burden them.

It is recalled that the case was revealed on November 11, 2020.
