The prime minister had the opportunity to discuss the operation of the schools, the performance of the students, as well as requests they have, such as their reinforcement with IT and visual arts teachers, Kyriakos Mitsotakis with the male and female students of six Minority Schools of the Prefecture of Rodopi, as well as their teachers, who was welcomed in the afternoon at Megaros Maximos.
In fact, one of the teachers remembered his visit Konstantinou Mitsotakis in the region: “I will never forget in my life, the pardoned Mr. Mitsotakis had said a sentence there which remained unforgettable: “Equality, equality”. He had said this word, this phrase in front of the Organis community.”
Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed out that “I was on this visit. And the first time I visited the minority villages was then, at the end of the 80s, and there I realized how much work still had to be done in order to implement the equality and equal state that my father first proclaimed and implemented, that’s why and he always had very close relations with the minority. And since then I think a lot of progress has been made, you know that better than we do. How much emphasis do we want to place on education, on the obligation we have to have minority schools which, however, can provide the best possible education to our children in both languages that they must be able to speak well. And of course I want to say a very big “thank you” because as educators you take on this difficult and special role of educating the next generation. When the children grow up, I hope they will have the opportunities, those who want to study at a Greek university as well, why not find these children after twenty, thirty years in the position you are in today, educating the next generation”. The prime minister discussed with the young students in a relaxed atmosphere about their school life, but also about the World Cup and football.
It is noted that the children study in the 5th and 6th grade at the Minority Schools of Ano Vyrsini, Ano Drosini, 1o Asomata, Kato Kardamou, Kechrou and Organis, they were accompanied by 9 teachers, while the Minister of Education and Religion Niki Kerameos also participated in the discussion.
It is worth noting that the above minority schools are two-seater, with one teacher of the Greek language program (PE70) and one of the minority program (PE73) and the students are Pomaks, members of the Muslim minority of Thrace, except for the minority school of Asomatas, where the settlement is mixed (Christians and Muslims).
In terms of their staffing and operation, there are no teacher vacancies in any of the schools, if needed, and there is the possibility of providing parallel support, while the Skills Workshops are also implemented. In Thrace, in the current school year, 99 minority primary schools are operating, attended by 3,434 students.
