The police statement:
“The coordinated actions of police officers of the Anti-Trafficking Department of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate, in the context of investigating complaints about a pregnant woman begging, led to the investigation of a case of human trafficking.
Two foreigners, 51 and 53 years old (male and female), were arrested for the case, against whom a case file was filed for human trafficking together and attempted rape.
In particular, a 34-year-old foreign woman, in advanced pregnancy, was found begging on a daily basis in the central streets of the city, putting both her life and that of the child she was carrying at risk.
The police investigation revealed that the 34-year-old entered our country at the end of October this year, together with her 53-year-old compatriot, who, taking advantage of her financial difficulties, convinced her to beg.
The pregnant woman lived in the house of the two perpetrators, who, by exercising physical and psychological violence, forced her to beg for long hours and pay them all the money she earned.
In addition, according to what the 34-year-old complained, the 51-year-old tried repeatedly to rape her using violence and threats, but due to the victim’s reaction, he did not complete these attempts.
Police officers of the aforementioned Service identified and arrested the two foreigners yesterday (24-11-2022) and with the case filed against them they will be taken to the competent Prosecutor”.
