Peskov’s answer to Zelensky: It is impossible to give Crimea back

“Zelensky calls for the ‘alienation’ of Crimea from Russia, which is out of the question” reports Dmitry Peskov

Moscow confronts the Ukrainian president’s statement Volodymyr Zelensky on the Ukrainian recapture of Crimea by non-military means as a discussion of the “alienation of Russian territories”, which is not under discussion, the Russian representative explained on Friday President Dmitry Peskov.

“For us, this is nothing more than a discussion about the ‘alienation of a territory’ from Russia.” There can be no other understanding here. This is out of the question,” Peskov clarified when asked to comment on Zelensky’s statement.

“Such speculations once again show the unpreparedness, unwillingness and inability of the Ukrainian side to be ready to solve the problem by non-military methods,” Peskov added, according to TASS.

Zelensky, in an interview with the British newspaper Financial Times, said that “if someone is ready to propose to us a way to liberate Crimea by non-military means, I will be absolutely in favor.” “If the solution doesn’t include taking back Crimea, nobody should waste their time on that. It’s a waste of time,” he added.

Peskov pointed out that some media “absolutely misinterpreted the essence of this statement”, interpreting it “almost as President Zelensky’s readiness to deal with this issue not by military means, but by peaceful talks.”

“This is a completely wrong interpretation,” Peskov argued. “You know that from the beginning – in fact, the president [της Ρωσίας Βλαντίμιρ Πούτιν] mentioned it more than once, even before the start of the ‘special military operation’ – the Ukrainian constitution says that Crimea must be recovered by force. De facto Ukraine has not given up on it.”
