On the roads that lead to the major urban centers of the country, the fir producers of Taxiarchis Halkidiki are now with their trucks in order to start the distribution of Christmas trees
These days in mountainous Holomont the narrow, country roads are “blocked” by dozens of beastly trucks and the cranes that transport the firs, filling flatbed trailers.
According to the president of the Taxiarchis community and fir producer, Yannis Xakis, throughout the season, around 60 trucks leave the area loaded with fir trees to distribute them throughout Greece, since from this small mountain village in Halkidiki, the Greek market is 75% of Christmas trees.
Exhausted from the intensive work of the last few days but also satisfied with their production, the fir growers make one last… courage by loading the trucks and thanking their good luck for the sunshine that helped them run everything smoothly.
After the final phase, with the transport of the firs, their distribution begins in various “posts” in Thessaloniki, Athens, Volos, Patras and Alexandroupoli where the producers themselves will be located.
As for their price, as Mr. Xakis had stated to APE-MPE, if there is an increase in the price of the trees, it will not exceed 5%-10% due to the increase in transportation costs and energy.
Last year, in Thessaloniki, the price of a fir tree ranged from 30-100 euros and 40-150 euros in Athens.
