Among them a minor – facing criminal charges

To the office of the investigating officer of Chania are being taken this morning seven traffickers of the migrants spotted sailing in an ungovernable rotten ship off her coast Paleochoras, last Tuesday 22/11 November

The Prosecutor has prosecuted the 7 traffickers, as a felony, for illegal immigration, endangering human life and forming a gang, while it is worth noting that one of them is a minor.

Yesterday, Monday, the seven traffickers came to the Chania Courthouse where they asked they received a new deadline to apologize this morning for what they are accused of before the Chania Prosecutor.

They were getting $3,000 and $4,000 per person

Traffickers were asking the migrants for a safe journey from the coast of Libya, telling them they would be taken safely to Italy.

In fact, according to sources from the Port Authority, the traffickers asked for and received 3,000 and 4,000 dollars per person to get the immigrants on board the ship.

During the preliminary investigation, the men of the port corps, in collaboration with men from Europol, took statements from the immigrants who indicated to them the traffickers.

Immigrants in Athens

The 476 immigrants who until a few days ago were accommodated on the ship “Samaria” that had docked at the port of Paleochora are now in Athens.

Their transport, due to the huge number, was carried out in installments. At noon on Saturday (26/11) the transport of the first migrants began, who were taken by bus to the port of Souda where they boarded the ships of the line and on Sunday morning (27/11) they were at the port of Piraeus.

Their transport operation continued on Sunday (27/11) where the last migrants left with the ships of the line, while it is worth noting that this is the second largest number of migrants in Crete after a rescue operation by the Coast Guard. The largest number of migrants have been rescued south of Ierapetra, years ago.
