No injuries were reported from the NISSOS KALYMNOS impact
Two cracks were found by a private diver on the left side of the passenger ferry NISSOS KALYMNOS, which on Monday night collided with a rocky area in the sea area west of Telendos, while en route from Leros to Kalymnos with 31 passengers, 18 crew members and 4 trucks.
No injuries were reported from the impact, while the captain of the ship had informed the local Port Authority about a controlled inflow of water during the voyage to the port of Kalymnos where it sailed safely disembarking the 31 passengers. Earlier, two patrol cars and two tugboats as well as three passenger tourist ships had rushed to the area of the incident in order to assist if required.
According to the Ministry of Shipping, officials from the ship inspection level in an inspection they carried out on NISSOS KALYMNOS found inundation with sea water in its premises, breakage of the rudder and warping of the propeller as well as the shaft of the left main engine while he was prohibited from sailing until the damage was repaired. A floating barrier has been built around the ship to prevent any pollution.
