Bad weather emergency meeting
The authorities have been alerted for the “Ariel” storm surge. The activation of 112 to send warning messages to the residents of specific areas, depending on the course and development of the bad weather that is already affecting several areas of the country, was decided during a new meeting held today Wednesday at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection. A message has already been sent to the residents of Zakynthos and Kefalonia.
The focus of the meeting held by the minister, Christos Stylianidis, with the participation of the deputy minister, Evangelos Tournas, the general secretary, Vasilios Papageorgiou, the leadership of the Fire Brigade, as well as meteorologists was the evaluation of the latest meteorological data concerning the bad weather with the name “Ariel”, as well as its evolution so far.
Therefore, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection is on full alert. The GPP has informed the competent state agencies, the regions and the municipalities of the country, so that they are on increased preparedness of civil protection in order to immediately deal with the effects of the occurrence of intense weather phenomena. In addition, it addresses recommendations to citizens to be particularly careful, taking care to take self-protection measures against risks arising from the manifestation of intense weather phenomena.

It is noted that according to the updated Emergency Bulletin of Hazardous Weather Phenomena issued today, Wednesday by the National Meteorological Service (NMS), a severe weather system named “Ariel”, due to a barometric low located south of Italy and moving slowly east-northeast, is causing worsening weather with high levels of rain , the high precipitation rates, the high frequency of lightning in the marine-coastal sections and the gale-force winds of 7 to 8 Beaufort. The bad weather will last until the evening hours of Thursday (1-12-2022).
The phenomena on Wednesday (30-11-2022) will be particularly strong in places in central Macedonia (mainly prefectures of Pieria and Halkidiki) and in the north-eastern parts of Thessaly.
