The award-winning Xanthi puppeteer and educator Apostolos Domtzidis has in recent years set as his primary goal the creation of a theme park in the city of Xanthi, dedicated to the most beloved “ugly” of our popular tradition, the figure of the shadow theater, loved by young and old alike. , the immortal Karagiozis.
Having traveled the barefoot hero of the modern Greek shadow theater from Evros to Kastellorizos and having organized interesting cultural events and educational activities through the shadow theater he created under the name “The Tales of Karagiozis”, the educator Apostolos Domtzidis tries to communicate throughout the world the greatness of the popular hero who was loved by generations of Greeks.
In an era where there are theme parks for unlikely heroes, for cartoons that came out of a computer and managed to win a place in the hearts of children thanks to the spread of technology, Apostolos Domtzidis believes that it is imperative to have a theme park dedicated to the Greek shadow theater and its main representative, Karagiozis, who embodies so many values ​​in his role.
Speaking to APE – BPE, he underlines that there is the political will from the municipality of Xanthi to create such a theme park in the city, which is sure to already have guaranteed attendance.
He also points out that there will be multiple benefits for young and old alike from their contact with the folk heroes of the shadow theater, who are an integral part of modern Greek history.
As part of this effort, this afternoon the Thracian Art and Tradition Foundation (ITHTP) is hosting an interesting event, where distinguished people of letters and arts will talk about the proposal to create a theme park dedicated to shadow theater.
