Mrs. Kerameos analyzed the axes on which her ministry’s policy for the education of people with disabilities is based

With the words “Respect, Understanding, Cooperation” the children of the Special School and the Special Vocational High School of Grevena, decorated the Christmas tree in the central square of the town. The children, wanting to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, hung the words on the Christmas tree located in the busiest part of Grevena, hoping that their concepts, which for them are decisive for the quality of their lives, will somehow affect all the rest of us.

The Minister of Education Niki Kerameos was also present at the decoration of the tree, who spoke with some of the children of the two schools, the teachers and their parents who were present at the event.

“We decorated the Christmas tree and talked about the importance of diversity, inclusion and coexistence” said Mrs. Kerameos, thanking the children “for making me part of this effort”.

Mrs. Kerameos analyzed the axes on which her ministry’s policy for the education of people with disabilities is based, which are: “the care of human resources, the creation of educational materials” taking into account the types of disabilities of children and ” the axis of inclusion.

“Our immediate concern is how to help the education system open its arms for children with disabilities by creating an inclusive school,” he noted.

The Minister of Education stated that the creation of the educational material will be done with funding from the Recovery Fund, while the guide for inclusion in the education of children with disabilities is being prepared in collaboration with the European Commission.

Mrs. Kerameos also visited school units such as the 2nd GEL of Grevena where she discussed with the Teachers’ Association while she entered 4 classes and talked with students of B Lyceum.

When asked by the minister about school issues, most of the students who took the floor raised the issue of the minimum admission base, saying it “does injustice to the weaker ones”, while some others mentioned “the issue of the professional qualifications that private college graduates have who have the ability to pay for their studies”.

The Minister replied that from measurements made in the Ministry it appears that “the minimum admission basis helped students through greater effort to improve their performance” while on the issue of colleges she emphasized that “colleges are not universities and that their graduates are not they enjoy the same advantages as graduates of Greek public universities”.
