Ukraine for “bloody packages”: This is a well-planned campaign of terror – Seven embassies in a week

by

The packages were sent to the embassies of Ukraine in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia and Italy, Austria, as well as the consulates general of the country in Naples (Italy), Krakow (Poland) and the consulate in Brno (Czech Republic).

Ukraine’s embassy in Madrid today received a package containing animal eyes, the latest in a series of similar “bloody packages” sent to Ukrainian diplomatic missions in European countries, Ukrainian and Spanish officials said.

Police cordoned off the building in the Spanish capital and began searching the area with dogs trained to detect suspicious objects by smell.

These packages, which were doused in a liquid with a special color and smell, were sent to the embassies of Ukraine in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia and Italy, Austria, as well as to the consulates general of the country in Naples (Italy), Krakow (Poland) and the consulate in Brno (Czech Republic), he said the representative of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko.

“We are studying the significance of this message,” Nikolenko said in a statement on Facebook, adding that Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba ordered all embassies and consulates involved to be put on high alert.

“We have reason to believe that a well-planned campaign of terror and intimidation of Ukrainian embassies and consulates is underway,” Dmytro Kuleba said in a statement.

“These (intimidation) efforts are futile,” he stressed, pointing to Russia, which has suffered several humiliating military defeats in recent weeks in Ukraine.

Six intercepted letters were sent this week to addresses in Spain, including the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the US embassy in Madrid, prompting Spain to beef up security.

Nikolenko said the entrance to the ambassador’s apartment in the Vatican had been vandalized. An embassy source in Rome said human excrement had been placed in front of the door.

According to him, the embassy in Kazakhstan had received a bomb threat, which was subsequently not confirmed.

The embassy in the US received a letter containing an article critical of Ukraine, he said. The letter, like most of the others, came from a European country, he said, without elaborating.

In Madrid, security personnel at the embassy located the package, which bore a foreign country’s stamp, at around 3:00 p.m. Greek time, Spain’s interior ministry said.

A specialist unit sent to the scene confirmed that it contained no explosive material.
