Hell for immigrants in Thessaloniki: They were held hostage in an apartment – 8 arrests

A group of Afghans held two Moroccans hostage in the Upper Town – Four perpetrators were found in the apartment, two of whom tried to escape – Another four of the gang were found in a neighboring apartment

The release of two Moroccan who were being held hostage were succeeded by police officers of the Immigration Department of the Directorate of Aliens in Thessaloniki.

For the case, the Authorities proceeded to the arrest of eight Afghans aged 17 to 32, against whom a case file was filed by the Thermi Migration Management Department, for illegal transport – promotion of migrants inside the country, kidnapping, extortion, criminal organization and infidelity.

Specifically, on Friday nighttwo people were found in an apartment in the Upper Town, who were being held against their will, lacking travel documents.

In the same apartment, four of the perpetrators were also found, 2 of whom tried to escape when the police saw them, but were stopped and arrested, while in a neighboring apartment in the same area, four other people were found involved in the same case, one of who allegedly has a leading role in the organization.

As it emerged from the investigation, the perpetrators beat the victims and demanded money from them, in order to transport them to Central European countries.

Those arrested will be taken to the competent Prosecutor.
