Today, the president of the Panhellenic Confederation has an emergency meeting with the Minister of Citizen Protection with the aim of de-escalating the tension

The president of the “Megas Alexandros” Roma Federation, Panagiotis Sambanis, spoke to ERT about the case of the shooting of the 16-year-old Roma by a police officer.

As he said, the condition of the 16-year-old is critical. “His life hangs by a thread. We are trying to cheer up his parents and wife a little. It is a difficult day today for the child. We will all go to Hippocrates Hospital to find out what is the condition of the child”.

“This incident should not have happened. He gassed up, he had no money, the kid was gone, they could have avoided all of this. They knew the child was a minor, 16 years old, he did not commit any crime. He didn’t pay for the gas, but there shouldn’t have been a pursuit, there should have been bad intentions, to kill a 16-year-old boy, they could have avoided it,” emphasized Mr. Sambanis.

He claimed that the child did not hit any motorbikes, nor any police cars. “He was trying to go home and just crossing the lines to turn left into the settlement was shot in the headas a result of which the car hit the wall of the hotel located in Diavata prisons”.

As for the episodes that take place in different areas, it did call for everyone to calm down, to calm the spirits and prevent damage. “The first thing we need to see is the child’s health. We must not do damage. We have to hold on. I appeal to everyone to calm down. We are trying to communicate with the presidents all over Greece. Today, the president of the Panhellenic Confederation Vassilis Panzos has an emergency meeting with the Minister of Citizen Protection to see what will happen,” said Mr. Sambanis.

“We’re not saying all police officers are bad. Sorry! There are good ones, there are bad ones, but don’t let this happen again. Not even a year has passed since the incident in Perama. The same is repeated with the 16-year-old child who could well have avoided it. They could, they had the potential. He did not commit a very serious crime. He put gas and left. For 20 euros you don’t take a life” he concluded.
