The “digital identity” of our country – What are the main searches of the year
Just before saying goodbye to this year, Google announced the annual lists of Google’s Year In Search 2022, which has now become an institution, as it is a “digital identity” of the last 365 days of our lives.
It captures everything we watched, who we admired, who we missed and in general, everything that caught the attention of the Greeks and sought them out in yet another year of intense topicality.
As emphasized, the Year In Search lists are based on our daily searches on Search, that unique, valuable tool that gives instant access, to billions of people on our planet, to a vast yet organized ocean of information about anything that can pass through our mind.
What emerges from this year’s Searches are typical for the “profile” of the year:
* The dominant trend is the increasing familiarity with our digital everyday life, as evidenced by our searches for all kinds of passes (fuel pass, edupass, power pass, etc.). Reasonably, Ukraine, some health issues – vaccination certificate, personal doctor – as well as the TV series “Sasmus” appear in the top ten.
* Among the persons who employed us, Roula Pispirigou is the first, followed by Makis Katmetzoglou. The connective tissue of all the names on the list – both Greek and international – is, as always, current affairs, as is the case with Will Smith and Amber Heard, who starred in the much-lauded trial with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
* The list of the deceased begins with Queen Elizabeth and includes mainly beloved Greek actors and singers, as well as the American actress, Emmy Award winner, Anne Heche.
* In sports, we left our adoration for the tennis courts and (with some exceptions) returned to our familiar football haunts, with rather expected searches for the Greek – and not only – championship.
* Very interesting (as always) are our questions in the “What is” section. Politics, economy (mainly crypto) and current affairs dominate, while the term “aphasia” also appears, probably referring to the health problem of the well-known actor, Bruce Willis. Also, it is worth saying that the question of what NATO is is not only present in the Greek lists of Year in Search, but also in other countries.
* In TV stuff, we vote for Greek fiction leaving only 3 places for foreign entries! On the contrary, in the movies, among all the foreign ones, only one Greek production stands out.
* In the search for “When” – as in “Why” – the wide variety of topics reflects exactly the “magic” of Search, which we constantly resort to to solve our infinite and different questions. In the famous “Why” for example, apart from the references to the war in Ukraine, the real protagonist is… octopus and why we shouldn’t eat it!
