This is a pilot program that will be expanded throughout the country with an emphasis on critical areas.

A program was launched today at the Friendship Club in Grava, according to which teams of medical and nursing staff will visit all the Friendship Clubs of the Municipality of Athens, in order to carry out the necessary hematological and biochemical laboratory tests on their members.

At the Friendship Clubs, all the necessary health examinations will be carried out, as well as the prescription of medicines, so that citizens do not need to travel to clinics and hospitals.

“This program starts from the Municipality of Athens and will be extended throughout the country, especially in critical areas. The goal and philosophy of the Ministry of Health is that we invest in prevention, so we are looking for citizens to do the basic tests and if there is something, it will be detected quickly. The more you invest in prevention, the better for public health. It is important in the large urban centers that the citizens know that we are now looking to find them, the Municipality of Athens has done an important job with the Municipal Clinics”, emphasized the Minister of Health, Thanos Pleuris.

For his part, the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, said: “We start from here, from Grava, the largest Friendship Club of the Municipality of Athens, a comprehensive screening program. It is very important because we work from the bottom up, house-to-house, neighborhood-to-neighborhood. I want to say a big “thank you” to the Minister of Health for the very good cooperation we have developed. We continue until we reach every corner of Athens.”
