On December 16, 2022, the Hellenic Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery supports the initiative of SALVIA and establishes the “Panhellenic Burn Prevention Day”

Two residents from Mati, Marina Karyda and Alexis Andronopoulos, who voluntarily supported all burn victims, founded SALVIA in 2021, the Hellenic Organization for Burn and Burn Victims and with their actions contributed to the establishment of the “National Burn Registry” to cover any burn.

On December 16, 2022, the Hellenic Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EEPEACH) supports the SALVIA initiative and establishes the “Panhellenic Burn Prevention Day”. The Prevention Day is dedicated to burn victims and victims from “Eye 2018”.

The event will take place at SERAFIO under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and the Municipality of Athens, which provides the space. Communication sponsor is APE-MPE, while the event will be welcomed by the Minister of Health Thanos Pleuris.

With regard to the necessity of establishing a “Panhellenic Burn Prevention Day”, the organization SALVIA in its relevant announcement, after noting that 60% of burn accidents could be prevented, states that “burns are worldwide one of the main causes of accidental injury even of death (P.O.Y. data) and tragically, children, the elderly and people with special needs are especially vulnerable”.

In Greece, according to SALVIA, “25,000 urban fires occur and one person is lost in them every 5 days. There are 4000 burn victims a year and 800 people are hospitalized with severe burns. Because most burn accidents occur in the home, the purpose of Prevention Day is to act as a “beacon” of information to the general public about the seriousness and causes of burn injuries. To highlight ways to prevent and avoid burns from any cause, so that everyone is aware and takes appropriate measures”.

It is also noted that every year around this Day (December 16th) information and awareness actions will be organized, in order to gradually achieve the reduction of burn injuries, which is the founding goal of SALVIA.
