The prosecutor intervened after animal welfare organizations complained about animal abuse
THE prosecutor Protodikon Volos ordered the implementation of an urgent preliminary examination on the occasion of the complaint of animal welfare organizations for abuse of animals in the two mangers that were set up in the square of Ag. Nikolaou and in the village of Saint Vasilis, in Riga Feraio square.
In their letter to the Prosecutor, animal protection organizations note that every year the citizens witness an illegality, namely the use of live lambs and small horses as decorative elements and “decor” in the Christmas manger of the Municipality of Volos” and add that according to the law, it recommends passive abuse.
According to the animal rights activists, the actions of the Municipality of Volos are in direct conflict with the legislation but also many times with issues related to the culture of our country and our value system.
The preliminary was assigned to the Volos Police Department and its results are awaited, in order for the prosecutor to consider whether or not to prosecute.
