Horto Florestal launches breakfast at a mansion; discover 10 more buffets in SP

by

A queue forms on weekends in front of a big house in Horto Florestal, amidst the trees and ducks that roam free there. Those who are there are waiting for a table to have breakfast served on Saturdays and Sundays in the park in the north of São Paulo.

Since it was launched, in April of this year, the buffet has been a success, with waits of up to an hour to enter. You pay BRL 59.90 to eat delicacies, snacks, sweets and drinks at will.

The menu changes every day. Throughout breakfast, the options are also varied and are replenished on the table: snacks such as quiches, stuffed bread, cheese bread and, among the sweets, there are carrot and chocolate cakes, rain muffins and fruit.

The kitchen also serves hot options such as scrambled eggs, vegetables. There’s even shredded meat and sausage in tomato sauce, to put together a stronger snack. To drink there is coffee, milk, water and natural juices.

All recipes are prepared by O Velhão, a traditional restaurant in the Serra da Cantareira region, in the north of São Paulo. The buffet is only served on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from 8 am to 12 pm — the tip is to arrive early. The meal is taken at Palácio do Horto, a mansion from 1937 that served as the summer residence for the governors of the state of São Paulo.

It’s not just the buffet at Horto Florestal that is a hit in the city, and many people are willing to wake up very early to have a hearty breakfast outside. For this reason, bakeries and hotels offer tables to serve as much as you like, with a fixed price or per kilo.
