The testimony of an Immediate Action police officer who dived into Mount Kako is shocking

It shocks the description of the Immediate Action policeman Yiannis Kouroupis, in Cretalive, who, together with two firefighters, dived into the sea to save the two men who were on board the single-engine aircraft that crashed on Mount Kakos.

“Help me, I’m drowning, I can’t take it anymore” the oldest pilot, 62, reportedly shouted before he disappeared from the surface of the sea. The youngest, 34, screamed as he watched his strength leave him…

According to information from Cretalive, many people were scattered on the rocks, but no floating vessel was still visible on the horizon.

The EMS officer and the two firefighters started down the rocks, throwing away their clothes to dive.

When they arrived at the scene they saw the wing of the single engine disappearing from the surface of the sea. It took about ten minutes of free swimming and energy conservation to reach the spot.

For the three rescuers, the wind was favorable for the trip, but the south winds and the currents had “smashed” the two castaways. They swam and struggled against the wind, with the currents “pulling” them back. They were tired now.

The youngest, who was wearing a pilot’s uniform, was closest to the shore, but the forces had almost given up on him. His older friend wore black clothes. It was further inside.

His head was visible. But at some point it disappeared. The officer turned and shouted to the people who were watching from shore and had better visibility to indicate which direction to continue swimming. “Keep going straight” they shouted.

“Help me, don’t let me drown” begged the 34-year-old in a state of shock, who was about to drown too.

“My friend must have drowned. He was asking for help, but I couldn’t do anything,” he reportedly said in shock. He was hypothermic and with the help of one of the two firefighters, they managed to get him ashore. Unfortunately for the 62-year-old it was already too late.

Information indicates that he had a large incision on his chest and it is estimated that he had probably undergone a serious operation in the past.
