One of the most famous landmarks of Athens, the historical Omonoia Square, re-enters the city’s Christmas map. With its famous fountain giving joy and sounds to the renovated square, Omonia wears its festive clothes, and brightly welcomes young and old at a special Christmas Market.
Until January 1st, the spirit of Christmas will light up the renovated square of Omonia. The square is transformed into a winter wonderland, hosting the brand new exciting celebration, the Omonoia Christmas Market.
The capital’s new commercial and entertainment institution fills the city center with sparkle and more vitality, offering delicious treats, selected gifts, music and plenty of fun for young and old through a series of special events.
The official opening of the Omonoia Christmas Market took place in the afternoon, with the opening of the Christmas market by the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, who stated: “Omonoia is back. Who would have thought it? Who would have dared to imagine three, four, five years ago that we would all meet together to celebrate Christmas in Omonia? The road has been opened with the reconstruction. A path we all walk together. And I want to say a very big thank you to everyone who supports us, to everyone who helps us, to everyone we work with. And of course also to Brown Hotels, but to Mr. Hondo who kept Omonia standing during the difficult days. May all of you be well. Let’s be happy our children. Merry Christmas”.
