Striker Lionel Messi, 35, said he can extend his career in the Argentine national team after the title won this Sunday in Qatar, with the victory on penalties over France.
In an interview with Argentina’s TyC Sports channel, he says he wants to stay with the national team for a while longer.
“Obviously I wanted to end my career with this [o tÃtulo da Copa], I can no longer ask for anything. Thank God he gave me everything. To almost close my career like this is impressive. After that, what will it be? I got the Copa America, the World Cup… It came almost to the end. I love football, what I do. I like being in the national team, in the group, I want to continue living a few more games being world champion”, said Messi.
He says the title in Qatar was what was missing from his career. “It’s anyone’s dream, I was lucky to have achieved everything and what I lacked is here”, said the ace.
“I can’t wait to be in Argentina to see how crazy it will be.”
Earlier, the number 10 had announced that the 2022 Cup would be his last. He will be 39 in 2026. “It’s a lot of happiness to be able to finish my journey at the World Cup playing my last game in a final,” he said before the decision against France.
