The report will be published every Thursday starting December 22
Every Thursday the EODY will announce a joint epidemiological report on the coronavirus, the flu and all respiratory infections, as stated in a statement issued today.
The announcement reads: “Over the past three years, the attention of public health authorities worldwide has focused on the SARS-CoV2 virus and the consequences of the pandemic.
After the three-year period, the European Center for Disease Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization issued technical guidelines for the organization of unified surveillance systems for viral infections of the respiratory system.
In this way, they highlighted the need to strengthen the surveillance of infections, both from the SARS-CoV-2 virus and from other respiratory viruses that usually cause a significant number of cases, especially during the winter months. Surveillance recommendations include the most common pathogens, such as influenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
In this context and in alignment with the recommendations of international organizations, EODY proceeded to strengthen the already existing surveillance systems and introduce new records to more fully capture the epidemiological picture in the country and for the three viruses.
THE single epidemiological report will include the data:
i) surveillance of cases (positivity rate), hospitalizations, intubations, and mortality for covid-19combined with the results of genomic surveillance and the municipal wastewater surveillance network,
ii) primary health care (PHC) sentinel surveillance that will include percentages of symptomatic individuals in the community, as well as number of ICU hospitalizations,
iii) laboratory surveillance of respiratory viruses by the sentinel network, and
iv) the laboratory surveillance of a sample of people with flu-like symptoms who come for a check-up at mobile health teams (MOH) of the EODY.
The report will be published every Thursday, starting from Thursday 12/22/2022.
The single report will replace the covid-19 epidemiological report published every Tuesday. For the current week, the covid-19 weekly report (20/12/2022) will be published as usual.”
