The old port of Elefsina is now freed from the wrecks, in order to host events during the official opening ceremony of Elefsina 2023 – European Capital of Culture, next February.
On the initiative of the Elefsina Port Organization, a wooden tourist pleasure boat, which had been abandoned by the ship’s owning company, was removed from the port of Fonia.
The operation to raise and remove the wreck was carried out with the assistance of a specially trained diver and under the supervision of executives of the organization.
“On time and with targeted actions, we managed to remove all the shipwrecks and harmful ships from the historic port, in order to contribute from our side to the successful implementation of the official opening ceremony of Elefsina – Cultural Capital”, said the CEO of OLE S.A. Apostolos Kamarinakis.
He added that from the first moment the OLE S.A. he was helpful, providing hosting of cultural events, in areas of his responsibility.
He also emphasized that for the management of the O.L.E. S.A. the removal of all dangerous ships and shipwrecks, which have been for many years in the bay of Elefsina, in points of its jurisdiction, remains a top priority.
It is noted that until today, they have been removed from the area of ​​responsibility of OLE. S.A. a total of 15 dangerous-damaging ships and wrecks.
