The 34-year-old police officer who is accused of shooting and mortally wounding 16-year-old Kostas Fragoulis, during a pursuit, in Diavata, was found before the 1st regular investigator of Thessaloniki.

He was called to apologize for the charge of manslaughter with possible intent, after the new criminal prosecution brought against him by the prosecutor, more correctly legal characterization of the act attributed to him (by attempt), as the death of the Roma minor occurred.

After the end of his supplementary apology, the investigator and the prosecutor decided unanimously that the accused police officer should be released, with the restrictive condition of being banned from leaving the country, confirming the previous decision of the Thessaloniki Criminal Courtby which the dispute between the investigator and the prosecutor on whether or not to pre-trial detention had been removed, after his initial confession.

During the minute-long apology, the 34-year-old allegedly repeated his initial claims, that is, that he acted in self-defense due to the danger his colleagues were in, as he said, stressing that he had no homicidal intent, while pointing out that the two shots were fired with the intention of damaging the tires of the farm car driven by the 16-year-old, whose identity – according to what he apologized for – he did not know while the pursuit was in progress.

The case file remains in the hands of the investigator until the main investigation is completed, while the competent Judicial Council will decide whether to refer the 34-year-old to trial. By decision of the Headquarters of EL.AS. already made available.
