The first information about the climber who fell into a ravine in Olympusshortly before conquering the top of Mytikas, as a result of which he lost his life, reported the central news bulletin of SKAI.
According to the report by Christos Nikolaidis, it is one 41 years old from Athens, an experienced climber, as was his friend. Around one in the afternoon, the two men were very close to conquering the summit of Mytikas, when the 41-year-old slipped and fell into a 400-meter-deep ravine. His friend tried to reach him and at some point spotted him from a distance and realized he was unconscious. From that moment, a major operation was launched by the Fire Department, the special teams of EMAK and volunteer rescuers in order to retrieve it.
As Christos Nicolaidis said, what remains to be investigated is whether the unfortunate climber died from the fall or died from the cold, which will be determined by the autopsy that will be carried out during the day by the Forensic Medicine Thessaloniki service.
