So far “some damage has been detected in old and mostly abandoned houses”
The competent services in central Evia are on full alert, as the entire region lives in the rhythm of the aftershocks.
“Until now, the earth is literally dancing, but it is dancing to the rhythm of a turtle,” declares the mayor of Delphi Messapia, Giorgos Psathas. As he notes, “there is concern among residents, but it was not such that it led them to stay out of their homes or move away from the area.”
All the civil protection services of the municipalities and the region are on heightened alert, after the meeting that took place in Psachna, despite the fact that so far no injuries have been reported from the earthquake and at the same time no significant damage has been recorded so far in buildings.
So far, “some damage has been detected in old and abandoned, mainly, houses” adds Mr. Psathas while 12 engineers of the Ministry of Energy, with the help of 6 engineers of the municipalities and 6 engineers of the Region and engineers of the TEE are “combing” the area to identify possible damages.
However, according to the first records made by the municipalities, there is talk of cracks in 10 houses, most of which are old structures and of which three are uninhabited.
It is characteristic that the seismic sequence continues and so far more than 70 earthquakes have been recorded.
