A total of five safe areas for dogs have been created throughout Athens
In the creation of a network of dog parks in densely built-up neighborhoods of Athens, the Municipality of Athens is making concerted progress with the addition of two new parks to the existing three.
In Neo Kosmos, specifically on Lambrakis Hill – which has recently been renovated in its largest part – a large play, exercise and relaxation area was created for our four-legged friends. The dog park that develops on an area 1.5 acres it has proper fencing and a security door.
They have been placed in the park skill instruments, such as wooden obstacles of increasing height, a wooden ramp, but also a corridor – “walkway” with ascent and descent, which make it easier for dogs to maintain their good physical condition, while at the same time contributing to their socialization. As in all dog parks, the area is divided into two zones for small and large dogs, so that they can play safely in the area.
The new dog park, with an area of 5 acres, within the Gendarmerie groves, on Mesogeion Avenue. The area was fenced off and within the park, which is also divided into two zones, special equipment and exercise equipment were placed: Climbing ramp, continuous obstacles with increasing height, flexibility tunnel, as well as tree trunk steps. This modern equipment is specially designed for the proper training and relaxation of the animals, with the active participation of their companions as a necessary condition.
Both parks feature continuous drinking water supply for the animals, as well as shaded areas and benches for the attendants. In the evening hours, the lighting is enhanced, aiming at the maximum possible safety of the visitors.
The Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis said: “Dog parks were not just a nice and innovative idea that we had for the city, as a municipal authority. It is the practical answer to an essential need that all of us who share our lives with these wonderful companions have. Now, even in densely built-up neighborhoods, our pooches have their own exclusive spaces. Open and secure, based on certain strict specifications. Suitable for playing, relaxing and socializing. With the addition of these two new parks, at Lofos Lambrakis and Alsos tis Horofylaki, we have already reached five dog parks, and we are continuing.”
Innovative spaces that offer security
Three more dog parks of the Municipality of Athens are located in the Probonas area, in Obrenovich Square, in Neos Kosmos, as well as in the reformed 4-acre park across from Larissa Station.
These innovative spaces created by the municipality enable those with pets to take advantage of the safety offered by specially designed parks, establishing these points for their daily walk.
The unified identity of the dog parks is defined by Argos, the “faithful dog of Odysseus”, which is a symbol for all the dog parks of the Municipality of Athens.
