Evia: License to establish a water course was granted to Kymi

A license to establish a watercourse in the area of ​​Limenas Kymi in the Prefecture of Evia was granted by a Joint Ministerial Decision of the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Ioannis Plakiotakis, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for Transport, Michalis Papadopoulos and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Apostolos Vesyropoulos.

With this specific decision, the Ports Organization of the Prefecture of Evia SA has the possibility to take the actions provided by law for the construction of the required facilities of the watercourse, in order, subsequently, to submit the request for an operating license.

It is recalled that establishment licenses have also been granted to the waterways of Ios, Volos, Rethymno, Kalamata and Kyllini. Corfu and Paxos have permits to establish and operate a watercourse, while the compliance of the watercourse operation permit in Patras is underway.

In total, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is examining another 23 requests for licenses for waterways, of which 18 concern the granting of a license to establish and five to a license to establish and operate: Skyros, Skopelos, Patmos, Alonissos and Tinos, with the last two being in mature stage.

“Evia is getting the foundations for an important infrastructure that will allow its air connection with the Aegean islands and beyond in the future. Seaplane flights can further boost the tourism development that Evia is experiencing, facilitating travel to and from the island.

“Kymi is the first of the five regions of Evia where waterways are planned to be established and operated, as relevant licensing applications have also been submitted for Chalkida, Edipsos, Aliveri and Karysto,” said Deputy Minister Mich. Papadopoulos on the occasion of the certification of the establishment license at the water park of Kymi.
