On February 1st, the shopping card will also be in operation
“Prices have started to rise on supermarket shelves, in various products, of the order of 5-10% such as dairy, meat, detergents and they are price rises to do with all the increase in inflation in the last quarter of the year – the last quarter “We’ve had no price hikes at all – and all the inflationary pressure I’ve had on various products in October, November and December is reflected in the increases companies are making in January.”
This was noted by the Minister of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis, in the “First Program” of ERT.
The minister reiterated that the household basket has contributed to the containment of prices in basic products, with 50% of supermarket sales being from the basket and reminded that the addition of branded products is being considered while for the possibility of other household baskets, the minister noted that they will be taken decisions after exhaustive dialogue with the branches.
The minister added that from February 1st the shopping card platform will be ready for the beneficiaries to start submitting the applications and within February the first payments will be made, which will probably concern those who accept the digital card.
Mr. Georgiadis also referred to the sales that are premiering today and as he said the shops are obliged by law, the percentage of discount that they display in their windows should be in comparison of today’s price with the price 30 days ago and not with the one before from a week, to avoid fictitious discounts while underlining that the fines are severe and invited consumers to proceed with complaints on the telephone line 1520 of the general secretariat of Commerce.
