A 35-year-old man in Agrinio first set fire to his house and then jumped to his death from the roof of a five-story apartment building
The tragic incident happened around 11 pm on Monday. The Fire Department was notified around 10:40 and rushed to extinguish the fire in a 1st floor apartment. The apartment was locked and the firefighters entered the space from the balcony where they climbed a ladder. The house was engulfed in flames, but no one was inside.
The young man had already climbed onto the roof determined to kill himself, possibly having cut his own veins first. “I’m falling, I’m falling,” he cried, and he took the doomed step, fell into the void and met a horrible death.
The tragedy occurred in front of shocked fellow citizens who were on the street and on the balconies. Someone was shouting to prevent him. They reacted to his fall with screams and shouts.
At the scene of the incident, at the height of the 3rd high school and the common area with the pitches, the EKAB was also mobilized, but unfortunately the fatal accident could not be prevented.
Police forces also rushed to the scene and the investigation into the case is ongoing. There is great sadness in the local community now that a young man ended his life.
