The young man was found guilty of threatening stalking, indecent assault and indecent assault.
A total prison term of 12 months, with a three-year suspension, was imposed by the Single-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki on a 30-year-old man who allegedly followed, persistently stalked and sent messages with obscene content, through social networks, to his 23-year-old ex-partner, after their separation. The disputed incidents unfolded from mid-2020 to early 2021.
The young man was found guilty of threatening stalking, sexual indecency and indecent assault. The court decided that his appeal should have a suspensive effect on the execution of the sentence, under the condition of not approaching the sufferer.
“He came outside my house and shot the tires on my mother’s car. He had created 16 social media profiles and was following me. He used to come to our country house, in Kallithea, Halkidiki, and look for me. Once he jumped the fence of the house and was hitting the shutter with a sharp object while we were inside. I experienced terror every day,” testified the girl, pointing out that she and members of her family have filed 9 lawsuits against the accused while he did not comply with the protective measures imposed on him not to approach her.
“From the beginning of March until the end of May we had a relationship. Follow me on Instagram. He told me that he knows the father and I felt safe, that’s why I accepted the request. We exchanged messages,” said the 23-year-old, adding that after their separation, the 30-year-old insulted her and made dozens of calls to her every day. “He was telling me that my parents will get hurt. He was asking for 40,000 not to post my video. He sent a message to my underage sister, saying he was looking for me,” he noted, among other things.
During his apology, the 30-year-old claimed that the complaints were made because he has a financial dispute with the girl’s father, while he only admitted that he abused her.
“In my anger I may have sent some messages, but that’s not how things are. Her father probably doesn’t want to give the money. She herself sent me nude photos to threaten me afterwards. I have not uploaded these photos online. There are videos and photos that she took of her own volition but I haven’t sent them to anyone. Some abusive messages have been sent by me in January 2021 and for that I apologize. I have been portrayed as a criminal. She says she fears for her life. I wasn’t following her. I have another girlfriend and I’m fine. I don’t want to deal with them. I’ve cursed her, but I’m not stalking her, nor am I a maniac. I don’t have a problem with the girl, I do with the father. He introduced me to his daughter. He told me “she’s beautiful, she’s a doctor”. I looked her up on Instagram. When I started asking for the money back, we broke up,” the 30-year-old said, among other things, before the court.
