600 Special Guards will be placed on January 20 in the Police Departments of the General Police Directorate of Attica
“The Protection Teams of the University Institutions continue to carry out their duties normally in the University Institutions (EKPA, NTUA, AUTH) that have been designated, in consultation with the respective rector’s authorities and in the context of the implementation of the security plans that the Universities themselves have” , states in a statement the Headquarters of EL.AS.
Following a relevant publication referring to the Protection Teams of University Institutions (UPI), the Hellenic Police Headquarters clarifies that in accordance with the current legislative framework (L. 4777/2021, P.D. 53/2022), the formation of the Protection Teams of the University Institutions is carried out by police personnel, as well as Special Guards. However, the Special Guards who are not assigned to A.E.I., may be assigned to Greek Police Services and perform the duties of par. 4 of No. 9 of Law 2734/1999 as amended and in force.
In the announcement it is recalled that the Special Guards join the Greek Police for the performance of tasks such as: patrol services, guarding vulnerable targets of police interest, in particular buildings and facilities of public services, judicial authorities, public benefit organizations, diplomatic missions, residences of government officials, as well as other services.
“Based on the above, the order of the Headquarters of the Hellenic Police has been issued whereby the 600 Special Guards will be placed on January 20 in the Police Departments of the General Police Directorate of Attica”, the announcement emphasizes.
