The 42-year-old was spotted by the police, who immobilized him and arrested him
He was arrested as part of the spontaneous procedure, yesterday afternoon in his area Korydallou, a 42-year-old member of a criminal organization, for aggravated conspiracy, serial, professional and habitual theft of vehicles. The arrest was made by police officers of the Property Crimes Prosecution Department of the Attica Security Directorate. At the same time, two other members of the organization were identified and are being sought, a 30-year-old foreigner and a 40-year-old citizen.
The 42-year-old man was spotted by police looking into a car in the area of Korydallos. The police stopped him and took him to the headquarters of the sub-directorate for the prosecution of crimes against life and property, where he was arrested.
According to ELAS, in the context of investigating cases of vehicle theft from various areas Attica, a special police team was established to identify the members of the organization and to put an end to its criminal activity. As it emerged from the investigation, the criminal organization started its activity at least two years ago.
Specifically, its members, using special logistical equipment, such as diagnostics connected to vehicle doors, metal cutting wheels, oxygen bottles, mainly removed parked vehicles from various areas of Attica in the early hours of the morning.
Afterwards, they were temporarily parked in isolated parts of the Southern Suburbs or Western Attica. After a certain period of time had passed and since the vehicles had not been located, they were taken to parking lots in the Petroupoli area.
The cars were either exported abroad, forged with chassis numbers and put back on the market, or removed and reused in other vehicles for their parts.
After searches in the accused’s possession, in houses and in various parking lots in Petroupoli, Haidari and Ilion, a total of 5 stolen cars, 1 motorcycle, stolen engine, stolen license plates, 3 car steering wheels, a number of car spare parts were found and confiscated. and accessories, 54 cartridges inside a backpack, the amount of money of 260 euros and 4 mobile phones.
From the preliminary investigation by ELAS, so far 8 cases of thefts from the areas of Pefki, Kifissia, Glyfada, Keratsini, Chalandrio, Piraeusof Patisia and Voula.
The arrested person was taken to the criminal prosecutor of Athens.
