A police officer was attacked with a baton in Corinth and is being treated at the city’s hospital, as reported by the website korinthostv.gr.

The incident happened inside the Holy Church of the Apostle Paul when a man made a fuss inside the church, as a result of which the Police were notified.

The crew of the patrol car that arrived at the scene entered the holy temple in order to remove the man, with the attacker attacking the police officers with a baton, injuring one of the two police officers in the head as he struck him repeatedly. Other patrol cars arrived at the scene and the perpetrator was arrested.

The policeman was taken by patrol car to Corinth Hospital where he received first aid. The doctors made three stitches on the policeman, who remained at the Corinth Hospital for further tests.

“The perpetrator has been arrested and a case is expected to be filed against him,” said the president of the Corinthian Police Officers Union Christos Vlachopanos.
