The illegal financial gain from trafficking exceeds 1,000,000 euros
A transnational criminal organization that was active in the importation of large quantities of cocaine from South America to European countries, including Greece, was dismantled by police officers of the Narcotics Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate.
According to the press release of the Ministry of of Citizen Protection, on Friday January 13, 2023, four foreigners were arrested, against whom a case file was filed, an automatic criminal procedure, for criminal organization and violation of drug legislation.
For the investigation of the case, inter-agency cooperation was developed with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the S.D.O.E. and the Directorate of Prosecution of Drugs and Smuggling of the Coast Guard-Hellenic Coast Guard. In this context and after a thorough and thorough investigation, appropriate utilization of information, creation of profiles of those involved and application of special investigative techniques, the involvement of the arrested persons in the criminal organization emerged.
As it turned out, the members of the organization were active in the transportation of cocaine, which they concealed in commercial ships from South America bound for European countries, including our country as a destination or transit country, at least since November 2022.
The arrested members of the organization that were active in the importation and trafficking of quantities of cocaine in our country had distinct roles, with a specific structure, hierarchy and methodology.
In particular, the arrested leader member, in addition to directing and directing the other members, was responsible for finding the quantities of drugs, organizing their shipment from Brazil to European countries and hiding them on commercial ships destined for European countries.
The remaining members were tasked – as the case may be – with the recruitment of collaborators for the receipt, transport and further trafficking of the drugs in European countries, the storage and concealment of the drugs as well as their export and transport from these places.
The dismantling of the criminal organization took place after an organized police operation that took place at lunchtime on Friday, January 13, 2023 in the Piraeus area, when a member of the organization was caught transporting more than 32 kilograms of cocaine by taxi.
In total, from the searches carried out, the following were found and seized:
32 kilograms and 300 grams of cocaine, 940 euros, 1.73 US dollars. and 5,550 Brazilian REAIS, GPS, D.X.E. vehicle (taxi) and 8 mobile phones.
The illegal financial gain from drug trafficking is estimated to exceed 1,000,000 euros.
Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
