The forensic examination of the body of the 20-year-old footballer who collapsed during the Karaiskakis Mavrommatiou – Doxa Ambelou match was completed early Monday afternoon, with the findings “showing” that his death resulted from myocardial ischemia.

According to information from ThessToday.gr, the medical examiner will proceed and in carrying out histological and toxicological tests, with the results expected in the next period. Competent sources point out that the young footballer had a “clean” record, something that the team’s coach, Athanasios Palantzos, confirms to ThessToday.gr.

“As usual he had a medical on August 15 to see if he is fit to play, which came back clean. The child was healthy and had never complained of any discomfort,” he said characteristically, while regarding the moment of the collapse he pointed out: “Everything happened very quickly. In the 17th minute of the match he fell to the ground while walking near the corner, with no opponent around him. Immediately, the doctor of the match and one of his teammates, a medical student, rushed to try to regain his consciousness.”

According to Mr. Palantza, after 10 minutes, first aid was provided to the football player by the EKAV crew. The young man was rushed to the Mouzaki Health Center and from there to the Karditsa Hospital, but unfortunately, despite the efforts made by doctors and nursing staff, they did not manage to keep him alive. “He was an active footballer who had been playing football for years and had even played in a higher category,” noted the coach, while underlining the need to have defibrillators during matches, in all football categories. “There was a doctor at the fight, but there was no defibrillator. It would be good to have them in all the stadiums, I hope they are the last victim”, he stressed.
