Picanha is in 2nd place in the list of the 100 best dishes in the world

Picanha, an essential cut in Brazilian steakhouses, ranked second in the ranking of the 100 best typical foods in the world, from the TasteAtlas Awards 2022, released earlier this year.

The piece, which sits on the back of the cow, is described by the website as “a fresh cut of beef” and “low in fat”. TasteAtlas, which selects reviews and evaluations from gastronomy professionals, also says that the meat appears among the most popular cuts in the world and even recommends a side dish, in this case, farofa.

Even praised, the picanha was no match for the karê, typical curry of Japanese cuisine, which was at the top of the ranking.

Despite the international success, most Brazilians have struggled to bring picanha to the table: in the last four years, the value of a kilogram of meat has been readjusted by 52%.

Three other Brazilian dishes entered the site’s top 50: the swamped cow, typical of the interior of the country, in 29th position; the moqueca (without details if it is the capixaba or the aa baiana), in 49th; and the tropeiro beans from Minas Gerais, which took 50th place.

TasteAtlas works as a travel guide to traditional foods around the world, featuring an interactive map with dishes from different countries. In addition to rankings, the site contains recipes, ratings, reviews and articles.
