New postponement in the trial of the Psomiadis brothers for the case with the “45s”

by

The court accepted a request for postponement, due to a serious obstacle of Panagiotis Psomiadis’ lawyer.

Postponed for the sixth time since Three-member Criminal Appeal Court of Thessaloniki the case with the so-called “45” projects, for which the former prefect of Thessaloniki Panagiotis Psomiadis and his brother Dionysis, as a former anti-prefect, are accused. Six other people were referred to the bench of the same court for trial.

The case was scheduled to be tried today, but the court accepted a request for postponement, due to a serious obstacle of P. Psomiadis’s lawyer. The latter was present in the courtroom as was his brother. There had been five other postponements, for various reasons: pandemic, barricades of lawyers and overtime. Under these circumstances, a new hearing was set for May 2024.

The “45s” case revolves around projects with a budget of hundreds of thousands of euros that appear to have been broken down into many smaller ones, worth up to 45 thousand euros, in order to be awarded through direct contracts and preliminary tenders to specific contractors, as stated in the indictment. The case file includes 456 such projects, during the period 2005-2010, i.e. during the tenure of P. Psomiadis in the Prefecture, with the damage to the Greek State exceeding 4 million euros.

A second part of the same case file has to do with project contracts signed between 2007-2009 in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki, with workers who appear to have been employed in services other than those for which they were hired. The damage in this case for the State seems to be valued at over 1 million euros.
