The well-known director and husband of Nora Valsami, Errikos Andreou, died at the age of 84. He had been hospitalized since August in an Athens hospital with serious health problems.

The news of his death was announced by the president of the Greek Actors’ Association, Spyros Bibilas, in a post on Facebook.

Errikos Andreou was born in Athens on December 15, 1938 and grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. There, he studied Art History and English Literature at an English-speaking university and continued his studies in screenwriting and directing at the Grand Academy of Cinema in Rome.

Upon his return to Greece, he worked as an assistant director in international productions, such as “The Cannons of Navarone” and “Lion of Sparta”. In 1961 he directed his first film “The Nightmare” in his own script and production, which won awards at the New Delhi Film Festival and the Thessaloniki Film Festival. In 1964 he directed the film “Return”, which won the first prize for a female role at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, and in 1966 the film “Dichasmos”, which won the state award for directing, as well as an international distinction at the Chicago Film Festival.

In 1967 he collaborated with Finos Film in the film “He and She”. He then directed other films, working with American and Italian producers. In 1970 he directed, in his own script and production, the film “Mutiny of 10” which won the director’s award at the Thessaloniki Festival.

He won the same award the following year, for the Finos Film film “The Great Moment of ’21 – Papaflessas”. In 1979 he directed the English-language film “Crying in the Wind”, which was shot entirely in New York. He also directed the cosmopolitan love adventures produced by Clearchos Konitsiotis “Search”, “Soul and Flesh (You and I)”, “The Hook”. His last film was “Destiny Affair” in 2009.

From 1977 onwards he turned to television directing several successful series. The legendary series based on the novels of Xenopoulos with the ideal performer Nora Valsami, such as “Aphrodite”, “Anadyomeni” and “Mystic Engagements” will remain unforgettable.

“The Death of Timotheus Konstas” with Mimi Denisis was also a great success. All the series he directed for television – public and private – became great successes and some left an era, such as “The Light of Avgerinos”, “Axiopistos”, “Laura”, “The World and Kosmas”, “Elli and Anna” “, “Stisichorou 73”, “The disappearance of John Avlakiotis”, “A woman from the past”, “The widower, the widow and the worst”, “Fortunate and unlucky”, etc.

In June 1973, he married the actress Nora Valsami, whom he had met during the filming of the movie “Two feet in a shoe” by Finos Film. They have a son, Konstantinos-Erricos Jr.
